Welcome to Mia’s Gold Award Journey!
Hi everyone! I’m Mia Joy, and I’m so excited to welcome you to my website! This space is all about my journey toward earning my Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

Through my Gold Award project, I plan to:
Launch the T1D Buddy Program a mentorship-style initiative that pairs children newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (ages 6–12 ages can very) with teens who already manage their diabetes (ages 13–18 ages may very). These buddy relationships will focus on emotional support, confidence building, and practical peer-to-peer advice. The project will include:
• Mentor recruitment and training
• Creation of digital and print resources for both buddies and families
• Organization of introductory group meetings, in person or online.
• Development of a sustainability plan with local partners (e.g., JDRF, hospitals)
Root Cause of the Issue:
Children newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes often struggle emotionally and socially because they feel alone or misunderstood. This lack of community connection contributes to lower confidence and difficulty adjusting to lifelong care needs. My goal is to make a lasting impact in my community and inspire others to take action, too.
On this site, I’ll be sharing updates, photos, and reflections as my project grows. I hope you’ll follow along, share your thoughts, and maybe even get inspired to start your own project that makes a difference.
Thanks for stopping by — I can’t wait to share this adventure with you! 💛
— Mia Joy
